Friday May 7, 10:17 PMSchools say students nowadays more likely to defy authority
SINGAPORE : Students these days are more aware of their rights, and many of them are more likely to defy authority, several secondary schools told Channel NewsAsia.
But schools like Beatty Secondary are also resorting to more than just punishment to deal with behavioural problems.
Beatty Secondary students Jeffrey Ong and Yang Lijie are both taking their 'N' Levels this year, and both are very optimistic about their future.
But it was not always this way.
Jeffrey, a secondary 4 student, admitted they had a history of defiance, quarrelling with teachers or fighting with students and classmates.
But he has since turned over a new leaf.
"The school has really changed me due to their punishment, counselling and detentions," he revealed.
As for Lijie, she expressed regret.
"I used to wonder why I had to be punished, why I had to go and do these kinds of things. I would think to myself when I went home, then feel that it's just very stupid that I did this kind of thing that made the teachers angry and made myself get hurt."
Principal Boo Hian kok says he sees about 15 serious discipline cases each month.
"When we talk to the kids, we find that kids nowadays are more vocal, they know their rights, they know what they want and they are not so amenable towards taking instructions just like that.
"And when they are pushed just a bit too hard then they fight back, they retaliate," Mr Boo added.
Some of the more serious offenders have been hauled up for fighting, stealing or simply defying their teachers.
And it is even more complicated when they are girls.
Mr Boo said: "Dealing with girls is a lot more difficult, their makeup is such that they are a lot more sensitive.
"They don't take harsh treatment as well as boys do. They hold grudges, so when we deal with them we have to be very, very careful."
But discipline is not just about punishment and deterrence, says Beatty Secondary.
It is also about creating a positive school environment and following up on and monitoring problem kids.
This is to make sure that even though they may have committed an offence once, they will not do it again.
Discipline mistress Melinda Goh said: "This child has been punished, but how do we help the child not to repeat the offence again, that is the tricky part."
"How do we work with the family, and what kinds of programmes can we introduce to the school? Are there programmes that the child is interested in that the child will be gainfully occupied and that will take his energy away from committing that offence?" she said.
Secondary 1 students are also taught interpersonal skills and anger management through a specially designed programme.
It has proven so popular that other schools have asked to borrow it. - CNA

and some of her "philosophy" hit me.
her lessons are really getting interesting by day.
i mean except for the first period when i was falling asleep-

im super duper bored;and i dont feel like doing any work today.
so here i am to irritate you all with my bloggin again :D haha-
have you guys ever wondered what it feels like to like someone younger than you?
[haha just in case ure thinking, im NOT in love with ulfred or lionel.]
anyway back to the topic.
i probably never had that experience before; liking someone younger than me.
and i mean younger as in at least one year of age.
so the big question mark to me is : whats the difference between tht and liking someone your age or older than you?
the constant thinking about what people will think if two of you got together or got to know of this?
or would it be just like any other normal relationship?
i mean after all, mr amos DID mention that guys are retarded and brain damaged as well as emotionally insensitive in relationships at the teenage stage.
and it would be better for a girl to get a guy two years older than her.
so what does it mean in a "jie di lian" if thats the case?
the girl gets the guy role and the guy gets the girl role?
thats absolute absurdity.
isnt it weird for a girl to depend on a guy who has a mind that is less matured than her for security??

nono i am totally not against "jie di lian"s, aboslutely not.
in fact my parents are six years apart with my mom being the older one
and i see them very in love with each other despite the age gap :)
and of course ive seen some "jie di lian" that didnt work out before.

that dont work out. so i cant totally put the blame on the age factor.

met up w the stewards at ps swensens and planned a surprised belated birthday thingy for teacher kev.
well it was QUITE a success lah i guess- haha he was shocked and shy cause we couldnt stop singin happy birthdayy
then after eating stuff totaling up to a hundred plus, teacher kev secretly paid. and we put the money back into his wallet without him knowing. lols- but he found out in the end la..
so we walked all the way to cineleisure to take *counts* three or four neos. of which i only like one! hahah-

and of course i borrowed cheryns cam and took alot of photos;
consisting of speech day + celebration + some of my brother.

eunice left & came back to meet us,

spent the last few minutes reading back on my old entries from last year.the teachers day dance & everything.
and memories flood back when i read them-
i laugh at some, cry at some.
sigh i really miss the good old times.
i miss fooling around;
joking;
acting like im totally unstressed.

i would like to thank all the people who have made my life worthwhile.

Second Coming of Jesus
Jesus promised His disciples He would come again. It's in the Bible, John 14:1-3, TLB. "Let not your heart be troubled. You are trusting God, now trust in Me. There are many homes up there where my Father lives, and I am going to prepare them for your coming. When everything is ready, then I will come and get you, so that you can always be with Me where I am. If this weren't so, I would tell you plainly. The angels promised Jesus would come again. It's in the Bible, Acts 1:10-11, TLB. "It was not long afterwards that He rose into the sky and disappeared into a cloud, leaving them staring after Him. As they were straining their eyes for another glimpse, suddenly two white-robed men were standing there among them, and said, 'Men of Galilee, why are you standing here staring at the sky? How will Jesus come again? It's in the Bible, Luke 21:27, NIV. "At that time they will see the Son of Man coming in a cloud with power and great glory."
How many will see Him when He comes? It's in the Bible, Revelation 1:7, NIV. "Look, He is coming with the clouds, and every eye will see Him, even those who pierced Him; and all the peoples of the earth will mourn because of Him."
What will we see and hear when He comes? It's in the Bible, I Thessalonians 4:16-17, NIV. "For the Lord himself will come down from heaven, with a loud command, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet call of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first. After that, we who are still alive and are left will be caught up with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air."
How visible is His coming to be? It's in the Bible, Matthew 24:27, NIV. "For as the lightening comes from the east and flashes to the west, so will be the coming of the Son of man."
What warning has Christ given so we won't be fooled about the second coming? It's in the Bible, Matthew 24:23-26, NIV. "At that time if anyone says to you, 'Look, here is the Christ! or 'There He is! do not believe it. For false Christ's and false prophets will appear and perform great signs and miracles to deceive even the elect—if that were possible. See, I have told you ahead of time. So if anyone tells you, 'There He is, out in the desert,' do not go out; or, 'Here He is, in the inner rooms,' do not believe it."
Does anyone know the exact time of Christ's coming? It's in the Bible, Matthew 24:36, NIV. "No one knows about that day or hour, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father."
Knowing how human it is to procrastinate, what does Christ tell us to do? It's in the Bible, Matthew 24:42, NIV. "Therefore keep watch, because you do not know on what day your Lord will come."
What warning has Christ given that we might not be taken by surprise by this great event? It's in the Bible, Luke 21:34-36, TLB. "Watch out! Don't let My sudden coming catch you unawares; don't let Me find you living in careless ease, carousing and drinking, and occupied with the problems of this life, like all the rest of the world. Keep a constant watch."
Why is Jesus second coming taking so long? It's in the Bible, II Peter 3:8-9, TLB. "But don't forget this, dear friends, that a day or a thousand years from now is like tomorrow to the Lord. He isn't really being slow about His promised return, even though it sometimes seems that way. But He is waiting, for the good reason that He is not willing that any should perish, and He is giving more time for sinners to repent."
While we wait for Jesus, how should we live? It's in the Bible, Titus 2:11-14, NIV. "For the grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to all men. It teaches us to say 'No to ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright and godly lives in this present age, while we wait for the blessed hope—the glorious appearing of our great God and Savior, Jesus Christ, who gave Himself for us to redeem us from all wickedness and to purify for Himself a people that are His very own, eager to do what is good."
What will the world be like when Jesus comes? It's in the Bible, Matthew 24:37-39, NIV. "As it was in the days of Noah, so it will be at the coming of the Son of Man. For in the days before the flood, people were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, up to the day Noah entered the ark; and they knew nothing about what would happen until the flood came and took them all away. That is how it will be at the coming of the Son of Man."
Will Christ's coming be a time of reward? It's in the Bible, Matthew 16:27 and Revelation 22:12, NIV. "For the Son of Man is going to come in His Father's glory with His angels, and then He will reward each person according to what he has done." "Behold, I am coming soon! My reward is with Me, and I will give to everyone according to what he has done."
Why is Jesus coming back? It's in the Bible, Hebrews 9:28, TLB. "So also Christ died only once as an offering for the sins of many people; and He will come again, but not to deal again with our sins. This time He will come bringing salvation to all those who are eagerly and patiently waiting for Him."
At Jesus' second coming, we will fully experience the reality of our salvation. It's in the Bible, I Corinthians 1:7-8, TLB. "Now you have every grace and blessing; every spiritual gift and power for doing His will are yours during this time of waiting for the return of our Lord Jesus Christ. And He guarantees right up to the end that you will be counted free from all sin and guilt on that day when He returns."

i agree with siying.today seems like sucha sad day;
i wonder whats with everyone.
junrong looked so sad,
dharwin was sad in the morning.
and the mood of the whole class was just down.
the only funny thing that happened was that
khairul & i pretended to be steads in school-
hahah.
went rinis house to watch howtoloseaguyin10days.
its good!

okay im online again. basically cause my parents arent home
oh yes and i came across this very interesting blog
which wrote

but guess what the interesting school made us play 2 other pieces.

& interestingly we survived the 2 rehearsals!
oh yes and the npcc leaders are extremely interesting as well.
tht guy was good at explaining.
this is the first time i understand the parade procedure after just one explanation.
